Bill Payment Service

How do I pay my bills using the Bill Payment Service?
Just schedule your bill payment at least 5 calendar days in advance of the payment due date, and let HVCB do the rest. When you initiate a bill payment using HVCB Online for Small Business, HVCB debits the funds from your account on the day the bank starts the payment process. If the payee is set up to receive electronic fund transfers, the funds are transferred electronically from your account to your payee. If the payee cannot accept electronic payments, HVCB will issue a paper check.

What types of bill payments can I make?
With HVCB Online for Small Business, you can pay almost any person or company in the U.S. However, payments going outside the U.S., court-ordered payments, tax payments or payments for which you must submit a document (e.g. parking tickets), cannot be paid using HVCB Online.

How long does it take before a merchant receives my payment?
Although most payments will reach a merchant within five days, some merchants may take longer to post the payment. Therefore, you may prefer to schedule your bill payments up to ten days before the due date. As you become more familiar with an individual merchant's posting habits, you can adjust your bill payment dates accordingly. It is important to note that the date you schedule a payment to be made is the date your account is debited and NOT the date the merchant will receive the payment.

How do I know if a payee can accept electronic payments?
When you set up a new payee, CheckFree's Online Bill Payment will tell you if the payee is able to receive electronic payments.

How can I set up an automatic electronic transfer from my account to another account?
You can only make transfers to your other Hopewell Valley Community Bank accounts at this time.

When you have successfully scheduled a future-dated transfer or bill payment, CheckFree will provide you with a reference number for this transaction.

What is encryption and how is it used to protect my information?
Encryption is the transformation of data into an unreadable form, and decryption is the reversal of that process. Both encryption and decryption require the use of a special code, usually referred to as a key. The security level of the key is dependent on the browser itself, and whether or not the browser is using 40- or 128-bit encryption.

The encryption of data provides a strong degree of protection against tampering while data is moving through the Internet. HVCB requires a secure browser that supports 128-bit encryption to communicate with you. From the moment you enter your User ID until the moment you log off, all communications HVCB Online are encrypted to protect your privacy, and the confidentiality of your account information.

How can I be sure that no one else will be able to access my accounts?
While there are risks associated with all forms of electronic communication, using 128-bit encrypted browsers provides a powerful safeguard against unauthorized account access.

When you sign up for HVCB Online for Small Business you select your own password which you can change, just give us a call.

Your account numbers are "masked" as they are displayed. Asterisks will mask most digits of your account numbers to ensure your privacy.

To further protect your sensitive information, HVCB Online will automatically log you off after a period of inactivity during any session.

How do I know when my information is encrypted?
Your browser will display a closed lock (if using Netscape®) or completed picture of a key (if using Microsoft® Internet Explorer) on the bottom of your screen whenever information is encrypted. You will also notice that the address (URL) begins with "https" whenever your information is encrypted.
